Canning: Feast During a Time of Famine

Friday, June 11, 2021

A useful item many take for granted is the mason jar, and its importance not only to the canning process, but its importance as a tool of survival.  Canning and the mason jar are an important food preservation method, used in some of America’s darkest times.  Join us on Fridays at 2:00 PM CST, as we tell the history of canning from Napoleon through the generations.

Meet Park staff outside the Canning House, located directly behind the York Home.  We will also take a tour through our newly developed Mason Jar exhibit, housing jars from Alvin and Gracie that date back to at least 1923.
