Maintain the Line: A Shovel at a Time - Wall Repair (10:00 AM-3:00 PM)

Saturday, March 6, 2021

Over the course of the First World War approximately 20,000 to 25,000 miles of entrenchments were constructed on the western front. From elaborate concrete monstrosities, to simple dirt and wood constructions - the trenches of the war would dominate the imaginations of millions during and well after the conflict. For American soldiers, known as doughboys, arriving in 1918 they would find themselves tasked with holding and maintaining sections of trenches on the frontlines of war torn Europe. Join us in exploring the facinating world of entrenching and fortification techniques of the Great War.

Come out and explore the world of World War 1 engineering, as we mend the trench in preparation for future events. Maintain the Line is a series of events that will be conducted through 2021 to mend and repair the World War 1 trench exhibit present here at the park to ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for both visitors and volunteers alike.

While this event is outdoors, visitors are responsible for following all COVID-19 safety protocols such as social distancing.
